this was good. The pomegranate contributes the sharpness you need to balance the sweet squash

Lunch: spag with walnut and garlic sauce, fried cauli

Dinner: beetroot and feta cake

this was thrown together but turned out really good. 7 oz plain flour with 3 tsp baking powder; 2 eggs, 4 floz olive oil, 2 medium-arge cooekd beetroot, grated, a few cubes of feta. Whisk oil with eggs, stir in flour then beet and cheese; turn into small loaf tin , bake 45 mins (about) at gas 5

chicken livers in allspice; squash ginger tahini puree, saffron risotto, green beans

the risotto didn't quite fit - i had intended rosti but one potato was bad. The livers you do for 5 mins. The squash was about 8-9oz unpeeled weight, this worked well, flavour a nice contrast. We had a good Georgian wine, got from WR.

Sunday 16.9

Lunch: soba noodles with cabbage and cauli

this has nothing to do with food, but 'they' have done something to the nemesis root which is to fill in the path a bit. it should make it easier but right now it is too loose to get a grip. I had several goes, one of which pitched me down the side with an impressive pedal gouge in my shin.

Dinner: WR moroccan soup

rump steak with cream, walnut, pom sauce; broad beans, fried potatoes

pappardelle, chicken liver ragu, courgettes

mackerel, radish-cauli-onion escabeche

Mushrooms, baked; cream and tarragon sauce, leeks, rosti

braised pork ossobuco with 5-spice, red cabbage, fried potatoes

peaches caramelised under the grill, pistachios, amaretto, cream

Goat cheese and squash tart, rms salad, bulghar pilaff with cherries

then we looked at photos, inluding Claire's awesome fractal cross stitch
